Mark "Boo" Hewerdine is probably best known as lead singer of the 80s band The Bible. But since the 90s he's mainly been a folksinger. He has been described as one of Britain's most accomplished songwriters. He was born Feb. 14, 1961 in London but his family moved to Cambridge. He was in a band during high school. He joined The Great Divide in 1983 and they released a single on the local label Wimp Records. Mike Scott of The Waterboys heard it and got them a deal with Ensign Records. They split up after three unsuccessful singles. Then he formed The Bible and they signed with Chrysalis Records. They had modest success on the British charts. Hewerdine left to go solo in 1990. He released an album with Darden Smith and then recorded a solo album in 1992. His songs started getting attention and Hewerdine has also produced former Fairground Attraction lead singer Eddi Reader. The Bible reformed in 1993 to tour and release a new EP. They split up for good after the tour and Hewerdine released the 1996 album Baptist Hospital. Muddy Water is from the 2011 album God Bless the Pretty Things for Proper's folk label Navigator. Hewerdine wrote all the songs. He usually self produces. But for this album, he brought in veteran producer Mark Freegard. Since then Hewerdine has recorded for Reveal Records which is Eddi Reader's label. His latest album was released in 2022. Hewerdine continues to write and produce for others. Here's Boo Hewerdine performing Muddy Water on a 2010 episode of BBC Songwriters Circle.
