Ashlee Simpson is the younger sister of Jessica Simpson. After following Jessica into the music business, her 2004 debut album Autobiography was certified 3XPlatinum and Pieces of Me was a top five hit. She fizzled after that and she last recorded in 2008. Ashlee has also done films and TV but she doesn't seem to be doing that anymore either. I'll get to that later. She was born Oct. 3, 1984 in Waco, TX. At first Ashlee wanted to be a dancer. She attended the School of American Ballet in New York City. After Jessica had success with her 1999 debut album, the family moved to Los Angeles. Ashlee toured with Jessica as a dancer. Ashlee got into acting with an appearance in the sitcom Malcolm in the Middle and the 2002 Rob Schneider film The Hot Chick. Then she was a regular on the TV drama series 7th Heaven. After recording the song Just Let Me Cry for the 2003 film Freaky Friday, Ashlee thought she could get a record deal. She soon signed with Geffen Records. Meanwhile she was working as an MTV VJ. When she signed her record deal, she was given her own series to chronicle the recording of the album. The album was produced by veteran producer John Shanks. He produced Take That among others. Ashlee and Shanks wrote all the songs with veteran songwriter Kara DioGuardi of American Idol. Pieces of Me reached #5 on the Billboard Hot 100. Autobiography was certified 3XPlatinum. Then she did a very stupid thing. She lip synced on an Oct. 23, 2004 appearance on Saturday Night Live. She was advised not to sing live by doctors due to acid reflux. It didn't matter. Fans turned against her and I don't think Ashlee ever recovered from that. Her next album did not do well. Meanwhile Ashlee played Roxie Hart in a Broadway revival of Chicago. This was Ashlee's only stage appearance. Ashlee's 2008 album Bittersweet World was produced mostly by Tim "Timbaland" Mosely. It didn't help. This was Ashlee's final Geffen album. Meanwhile Ashlee became a regular on the TV series Melrose Place and she married Pete Wentz of Fall Out Boy. That marriage didn't last long. Ashlee started recording an album in 2011. After releasing a single, she decided to scrap the album. Ashlee continued to appear mostly on Reality TV. She also married The Hunger Games actor Evan Ross. He is the son of Diana Ross. They did release a 2019 EP together. But other than than that, Ashlee Simpson seems to be retired from music and acting.
