Song:Light the Light
Album:Light the Light/Seawind
Though they released a few albums in the 70s, Seawind is better known for their impact on the Los Angeles studio scene. For a while The Seawind Horns seemed to be on every hit record in the 70s and 80s. Seawind are from Hawaii led by drummer Bob Wilson and his singer wife Pauline Wilson. Bob Wilson wrote all the songs. The other key figure was trumpeter Jerry Hey, leader of The Seawind Horns. At first the band was called OX. When Harvey Mason brought them to Los Angeles, he changed their name to Seawind and got them a record deal with CTI. Mason produced the 1976 album Seawind. The rest of the band was Kim Hutchcroft on sax, Larry Williams on keyboards, Bud Nuanez on guitar and Ken Wild on bass. Mason helped The Seawind Horns get established in the local studio scene. They played on many albums, most notably with Michael Jackson. For the 1977 album Window of a Child, Bill Reichenbach Jr. was added on trombone. In an effort to be more commercial, Seawind signed with A&M's jazz label Horizon. Tommy LiPuma produced the 1979 album Light the Light. It concentrated more on Pauline's vocals. Then Horizon was closed and the 1980 album Seawind was on A&M. It was produced by George Duke. The single What Cha Doin' was a top 20 R&B hit. The only reason I am going with Light the Light is it may be the only Seawind video clip out there. And the clip isn't even good quality. That was the end of Seawind as a regular band though they continued to work together. Light the Light and Seawind are available as a twofer from the reissue label SoulMusic. Jerry Hey continued to lead The Seawind Horns and they played on many hit records. Bob & Pauline Wilson released the 1981 album Somebody Loves You on Word's CCM label Myrrh. Seawind is the band on the album. Here's the video for Light the Light by Seawind.
