Romeo Santos was the lead singer of the popular bachata group Aventura. Since they split up, Santos has launched a very successful solo career. Mi Santa was one of four number one Latin hits from his 2011 debut album Formula Vol. 1. He was born Anthony Santos July 21, 1981 in The Bronx, NY. His father is from the Dominican Republic and his mother is from Puerto Rico. Santos sang in his church choir as a child. He formed Aventura in 1996 with his cousin Henry Santos and friends Lenny Santos and Max Santos. The idea was to blend the bachata music of Puerto Rico with hip hop. After great success for over a decade, Aventura went on hiatus and Santos released his debut solo album in 2011. Though Aventura officially split up in 2016, they have continued to tour and it looks like they are recording new music. Santos signed with Sony Latin. He wrote and produced the album with hip hop producer Ivan Chevere who has worked on all of Santos' albums. Santos stuck with the Aventura formula of mixing bachata and hip hop. The first three singles topped the Latin charts. You, Promise featuring Usher and Mi Santa featuring flamenco guitarist Tomatto. The album was certified 3XPlatinum. Santos toured to support it. Since then he has released three albums. Santos announced in February that his new album Formula Vol. 3 would be released soon. The release date has not been announced.
