AccuRadio Song Of The Day-Clay Davidson

Artist:Clay Davidson

Song:Unconditional

Album:Unconditional

Clay Davidson scored a top five country hit with the 2000 single Unconditional. It even crossed over to be a top 50 pop hit. This was followed by the album Unconditional. It's his only album to date. So what happened to him? There were a couple of things. But always remember, Google is your friend. He was born Apr. 4, 1971 in Saltville, VA which is near Bristol at the Virginia Tennessee border. After winning the 1995 Charlie Daniels Talent Round-Up, Davidson and his wife moved to Nashville to get a record deal. After working as a demo singer, Davidson was asked to perform at a party for singer songwriter Jude Cole at record producer Scott Hendricks' ranch. At the time, Hendricks had just left his job as CEO of Capitol Records Nashville and was starting a similar position at Virgin Records. He signed Davidson and Cole agreed to produce Davidson's album Unconditional with Hendricks. The single Unconditional reached #3 on the Country Singles chart and #49 on the Billboard Hot 100. The song was written by veteran Nashville songwriters Rivers Rutherford, Liz Hengber and Deanna Bryant. But by 2001, things weren't working out at Virgin Nashville. The office was closed and all the artists were moved to Capitol. Davidson never recorded for Capitol. On July 20,2001, Davidson's tour bus was in Effingham, IL when the driver fell asleep. The injuries from the crash forced Davidson to come off the road and he lost his record deal. Davidson returned home to Virginia and continued to perform. In 2016 he formed Damn Davidsons with drummer brother Arnold Davidson. They planned to finance an album using Go Fund Me. But it didn't work out. They decided not to go ahead with it. It doesn't look like Davidson is performing anymore. Here's the video for Unconditional by Clay Davidson.
