AccuRadio Song Of The Day-B.J. Thomas

Artist:B.J. Thomas
Song:(Hey Won't You Play) Another Somebody Done Somebody Wrong Song
Album:All The Hits: The Ultimate Collection

Of course most fans are familiar with the 1969 B.J. Thomas number one hit Raindrops Keep Fallin' On My Head from the hit film Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. But he had a second number one hit when Thomas moved to Nashville and became a country singer. That was (Hey Won't You Play) Another Somebody Done Somebody Wrong Song. In the 60s, Thomas recorded for Scepter Records with modest success. Because it was from a hit movie, Raindrops Keep Fallin' On My Head was a fluke hit. He did score a couple of hits including Rock and Roll Lullaby in 1972. After that, he left Scepter for Paramount Records. After two unsuccessful albums, Paramount was folded into parent company ABC Records. Thomas' first album on ABC was Reunion in 1975. The title was because Thomas was reuniting with producer Chips Moman who he had worked with at Scepter. Reunion was supposed to be a country album. (Hey Won't You Play) Another Somebody Done Somebody Wrong Song not only topped the Country Singles chart. But it crossed over to top the Billboard Hot 100. I don't think they were expecting that. Moman wrote the song with veteran producer Larry Butler. Reunion is a short album and it has never been released on CD anyway. This BMG budget comp has both of Thomas' number one hits. Beware of rerecorded versions. Thomas never had another pop hit. But he did have success in the country market after MCA bought ABC in 1978. He also started recording Christian music for Word's Myrrh label. So he had success there as well. This versatility has served Thomas well as he still tours and records occasionally. Here's B.J. Thomas performing (Hey Won't You Play) Another Somebody Done Somebody Wrong Song on The Midnight Special 1975.

  1. I remember hearing his big hit Done somebody wrong on the easy listening AM stations many years ago. Everybody loved it. I will have to download that song from Amazon. Thank-you very much Frank for the memories and the back story on him. Yours Defshepard.
