V Hajime changes ringname to VV Mei

VV Mei
Apparently yesterday was VALKYRIE Featherweight Champion Mei "V Hajime" Yamaguchi's birthday and she chose that day to make some big changes. She announced on her Twitter that she has left MAX Jiu Jitsu Academy and will now freelance. And in an interview with GBRing, she changed her ringname from V Hajime to VV Mei which translates to May Vee Vee in English. I hate goofy ringnames. She told GBRing that she felt that she was getting too comfortable at MAX and training in unfamiliar environments will make her a better fighter. She says the V Hajime name was confusing for overseas reporters which is true because it actually translates to V1 and VV Mei is a lot easier. She made these changes in the wake of her Nov. title match against Kyoko Takabayashi where she retained her title by majority draw. Many observers believed that she lost and she admitted afterwards to Tony Losileur of Sherdog that she performed poorly and was fortunate to retain her title. I should add that VV Mei grew up in the US and speaks perfect English.

  1. "It's Mei ... It's Mei ... It's VV Mei!"

That was cheesy, even for me.
