Lisa Ward |
Last week JEWELS announced some matches for their Mar. 11 Shinjuku FACE show. They announced that JEWELS Lightweight Champion Ayaka Hamasaki will face a gaijin to be announced. I can report that veteran fighter Lisa Ward is that gaijin. This was revealed inadvertently by AACC clothing sponsor Inspirit on their website. Of course Lisa has been to Japan several times. She trains at the United Training Center in Olympia, WA that she owns with husband Eddie Ellis. Her record is 14-6 and her last fight was a submission loss to Megumi Fujii on the Sept. 30 Bellator show in Lake Charles, LA. The undefeated Ayaka Hamasaki is a very interesting opponent for Lisa because Ayaka seems to be a carbon copy of her trainer Megumi Fujii. In a recent interview, Ayaka said she fights southpaw but doesn't know why. That's easy. Megumi fights southpaw so that's what she taught to Ayaka. Of course Ayaka trains at AACC. Her record is 4-0 and her last win was over Ham Seo Hee on the Dec. 17 JEWELS show. This should be good. Though it hasn't been announced yet, I can report that British fighter Danielle West will make her first trip to Japan to face the Mongolian fighter Esui. Danielle announced this on her Facebook. Danielle trains at Fuzion MMA in London. Her record is 3-1 and her last fight was a win over Maria Hougaard Nielsen on the Oct. 2 Fighter Gala show in Helsinger, Denmark. Esui is a pro wrestler turned MMA fighter. She trains at Smash Alley. Her record is 1-1 and her last fight was a win over Shizuka Sugiyama on the Dec. 17 JEWELS show. That fight was at 59kg but Danielle's fighting weight is heavier and Esui should fight at a heavier weight anyway. I will have more details as they are made available.
