Shizuka Sugiyama, Mika Nagano, Ayaka Hamasaki, Emi Murata |
JEWELS held a press conference today to announce a couple of matches for their Mar. 11 Shinjuku FACE show. But the big news is that Shizuka Suigiyama announced that after her appearance on this show, she is moving to Australia. So is she staying in MMA? They say that she is. I'm not so sure. Her last loss on the Dec. JEWELS show to Esui was really bad and there comes a point where a fighter is more suspect than prospect. That's where Sugiyama is right now. Her main purpose for moving to Australia is to study languages for a year which she has planned since high school. You may not know that Shizuka was born in New York City and currently teaches in Yokohama. She speaks perfect English. JEWELS is claiming that she will fight in Australia but Shizuka acknowledged that fighting will be a hobby and will take a back seat to her studies. She isn't saying she is through fighting but I wouldn't be surprised if she decides not to return. JEWELS announced that the main event will have JEWELS Lightweight Champ Ayaka Hamasaki facing a gaijin TBA. Hamasaki trains at AACC. She is 4-0 and she won the belt with a win over Ham Seo Hee on the Dec. 17 JEWELS show. In a match contracted for 54kg, Mika Nagano will face Emi Murata. Nagano trains at CORE. Her record is 7-4 and her last fight was a loss to Ham Seo Hee at the Dec. 17 JEWELS show. Murata trains at AACC. Her record is 2-1 and her last fight was a win over Anna at the Dec. 17 JEWELS show. There's a little confusion because Mika Nagano is facing Rina Tomita in a grappling exhibition on the Feb. 27 DEEP show at Shinjuku FACE. And she is also working for the STARDOM joshi puroresu company. Mika admitted to Ringstars her schedule is very challenging right now. STARDOM runs every other Sunday so her dance card is full. In a match contracted for 50kg, MIYOKO will face Yuka Okumura. MIYOKO trains at Grabaka. Her record is 2-2 and her last fight was a win over Asami Higa on the Dec. 17 JEWELS show. Okumura is making a return to MMA after a 3 1/2 year absense. She is freelance and her record is 1-6. Her last fight was a loss to Yasuko Tamada on the Sept. 9, 2007 ZST show. Stay tuned as more matches are announced for this show.
Just a question: isn't her name SHIZUKI SUGIYAMA? Thanks ;)
