Sandy Fumer |
What a schmozzle! So we have a new and (I hope) final opponent for HIROKO for Sunday's SHOOT BOXING show. The opponent will be Aussie kickboxer Sandy Fumer in her MMA debut. She is known as The Ice Woman and has a 15-5 kickboxing record and has held some titles. But she has never done MMA. This will be a pro MMA match under special JEWELS rules with ground and pound allowed contracted for 65kg scheduled for two five minute rounds. No more changes please. The original plan was for HIROKO to try Shoot Boxing like a lot of the other JEWELS fighters have done. She thought it would be fun. But they couldn't find an opponent. They did bring in pro wrestler Nanae Takahashi with a Fuuka tie-in. But they decided not to do Takahashi vs HIROKO for some reason. I don't know why. They're similar in size. With Takahashi, they ended up doing a lame exhibition match with Fuuka. And they even did an open workout with Fuuka yesterday. I suspect an ulterior motive for not finding an opponent for Takahashi. A couple of weeks ago SB announced that Olympic wrestling medallist Randi Miller would face HIROKO in some sort of Vale Tudo match. They changed it because Randi is a wrestler. I don't know if it was supposed to be a pro MMA match or what it was supposed to be. They bungled the announcement so it wasn't clear. Vale Tudo has a different meaning in Japan than elsewhere and it doesn't necessarily mean pro MMA. Randi Miller suffered a broken hand in training last week. SB had a couple of fighters to choose from but Sandy Fumer was the best size match. I know what you're thinking. So if Sandy Fumer is a kickboxer, why didn't they change it back to Shoot Boxing which was what it was supposed to be in the first place. Well, SB is probably a little verklempt right now so they're not thinking straight. But Sandy is quoted as saying that she didn't care what kind of match it is. She would KO her opponent anyway. Uh huh.
