Artist:Angie Stone
Song:No More Rain (In This Cloud)
Album:Black Diamond
R & B singer songwriter Angie Stone had been around for several years in various groups and also singing backup vocals before she got the opportunity to make her solo debut with this 1999 CD Black Diamond. She was born Angela Brown Dec. 18, 1961 in Columbia, SC and grew up singing in church. I'm sure many fans know that she has two children including one from her relationship with R & B star D'Angelo. Angie's daughter Diamond had a son in 2008 so now she's a grandma too. Angie first surfaced in the early 80s as a member of the girl group The Sequence. They had a hit in 1980 with Funk You Up. She also worked with Mantronix and sang backup for Lenny Kravitz. In the mid 90s, she formed the neo soul group Vertical Hold, worked on Devox and contributed songs to D'Angelo albums. Though Vertical Hold wasn't ultimately successful, it got Clive Davis' attention and he signed her to Arista. Black Diamond was Angie's solo debut. No More Rain was the first single and reached #9 on the R & B singles chart. Angie wrote the song and it samples the 1972 Gladys Knight hit Neither One Of Us. It's been her most successful song to date. Black Diamond went gold. Angie went with Davis when he started J Records and her 2001 CD Mahogany Soul and 2004 CD Stone Love were released there. They didn't do as well as the first album so Angie left J and signed with the revived Stax Records and released The Art Of Love And War in Oct. 2007. And if you've seen her lately, you'll know that she ditched the afro. She's also done some acting but her music still seems to be her main thing. I'm sure we'll hear more from the very talented Angie Stone very soon. Here's the video for No More Rain (In This Cloud) by Angie Stone.
