Song:Lump
Album:The Presidents of the United States of America
The Presidents of the United States of America (PUSA) came from the 90s alt rock and grunge scene in Seattle. Their 1995 debut album did very well mostly because MTV played the video for Lump to death. But after their second album didn't do well, they split up. They were from Seattle led by lead singer, bassist and songwriter Chris Ballew. He met guitarist Dave Dederer in school. In the late 80s Ballew lived in Boston and was in the band Egg. He moved back to Seattle in 1993 and formed PUSA with Dederer and Love Battery drummer Jason Finn. After releasing a couple of singles, PUSA signed with Columbia and released the 1995 album The Presidents of the United States of America. Lump was their biggest hit as it topped the Alt Rock chart. The album was certified 3XPlatinum. This was driven by MTV playing the video for Lump to death. The video was directed by Roman Coppola. The album was produced by PopLlama Records owner Conrad Uno who originally signed PUSA. Their music was more tongue in cheek than other bands of that era. Their 1996 album II didn't do as well. After releasing the rarities album Pure Frosting, Ballew disbanded PUSA to spend more time with his family. They reformed in 2004 and recorded on their own label and toured until Ballew decided to disband PUSA for good in 2016. Ballew has recorded solo but he seems to really enjoy performing children's music as Caspar Babypants. I guess he's found his calling. Here's the video for Lump by The Presidents of the United States of America.
