Here's the fight video of Gillian Robertson vs Luana Pinheiro from last night's UFC show in Las Vegas. This fight is at Strawweight. Gillian is 29 years old from Niagara Falls, ON but she trains at The Goat Shed in Miami with long time coach Din Thomas. Her UFC record is 11-6. Gillian is a great wrestler. But her striking is subpar and she needs half decent striking to get to the ground. Luana is 30 years old from Brazil. She now trains at Team Oyama in Irvine, CA with coach Colin Oyama. Of course that was the home for former UFC Strawweight champ Carla Esparza. Her UFC record is 3-2. She is a striker. Her big problem is she is undersized for Strawweight and this week she wished that the UFC would start an Atomweight division. That is being discussed. But the UFC should have started an Atomweight division a few years go. The only way that Luana can win this fight is to keep the fight standing. A lot of round one is clinching on the fence. But Gillian controls that and gets a takedown near the end of the round. I scored it 10-9 for Gillian. Luana does a much better job in round two. She blocks takedown attempts and wins the round 10-9. But Gillian gets a takedown early in round three and is able to control the rest of the round. I scored that 10-9 for Gillian and she won the fight 29-28. Two of the three judges scored the fight the same and the third judge scored it 29-27 for Gillian. She wins by unanimous decision. Obviously he scored round three 10-8 for Gillian. It was not quite there. Gillian was upset that she didn't get a finish. I think Luana gave her a tougher fight than expected. Enjoy the video!
