Here's the fight video of Denise Gomes vs Karolina Kowalkiewicz from last night's UFC show in Las Vegas. This fight is at Strawweight. Denise is 24 years old from Brazil. She now trains at The GAEA Project which she owns with Jessica Andrade and Karol Rosa. Her UFC record is 3-2. She's a hard puncher. Karolina is 39 years old from Poland. She is now training at American Top Team in Florida. Her UFC record is 9-8. She's a former title challenger but she has always been a one dimensional striker with no power. And now she's not as quick as she used to be. In this fight, she's a gatekeeper. If Denise wins, she can move up the rankings. Karolina takes it to the fence probably to avoid Denise's power. But Denise controls that clinch and wins the round 10-9. They are also against the fence in round two and Denise does enough to win the round 10-9. So now Karolina needs a finish and she's a points fighter. Again they spend a lot of time clinching on the fence. Karolina gets a takedown near the end of the round. But there isn't enough time to do anything with it. I scored the round 10-9 for Denise and the fight 30-27 for Denise. Two of the three judges scored it the same. And the third judge scored it 29-28 for Denise. I guess Karolina's strategy didn't work out. Like I said, I think she was trying to avoid Denise's power. But she was mostly on defense and it's hard to win fights that way. Enjoy the video.
