AccuRadio Song Of The Day-Tacocat

Artist:Tacocat

Song:Bridge to Hawaii

Album:NVM

The band Tacocat became indie darlings when their 2014 album NVM was praised by the music press and got college radio airplay. Tacocat is from Seattle. Drummer Lelah Maupin and guitarist Eric Randall worked together at a Safeway store. Then Randall met Bree McKenna while his band practiced at a house where she lived. And Lelah met singer Emily Nokes in a graphic arts class. They formed Tacocat and started playing local clubs. They self released an album in 2008. Tacocat writes and produces everything. So they are a DIY band. They signed with Subpop's Hardly Art label and released a couple of EPs and toured. Then they released the 2014 album NVM and were praised by Pitchfork, AllMusic and PopMatters. And they got college radio airplay. Their music is pop laced with sarcasm. For example, Bridge to Hawaii is about waiting for a Seattle bus and dreaming of being in Hawaii. They also address feminist issues. Tacocat went on a world tour to support NVM. The album is available as a budget CD. Tacocat last released an album in 2019. It's not clear if they are still together. They last posted to Facebook in 2021. And Emily and Bree are in the band Who Is She? and they released an album in 2023. Here's the video for Bridge to Hawaii by Tacocat.
