Artist:Ron Holden
Song:Love You So
Album:The Del-Fi & Donna Story
The 1960 single Love You So was the only big hit for Ron Holden. One other song charted so he was not a one hit wonder. He was born Aug. 7, 1939 in Seattle. Holden's father Oscar Holden played clarinet for Jelly Roll Morton. While on tour, Holden decided to settle in Seattle and play piano in clubs. Holden was actually an early influence on Ray Charles. Ron Holden learned to play trombone and had a band in high school. During a break at a 1959 show, the band went to the parking lot for some weed. Holden was thrown in jail. He met sheriff's deputy Larry Nelson. He was in the doo wop group The Shades who recorded a single for Aladdin Records. Nelson overheard Holden singing with other inmates and thought he was pretty good. Nelson asked Holden if he was interested in recording. They recorded Holden's song Love You So on a local label. When Del-Fi Records owner Bob Keane heard the record, he bought it and released it on his new Donna label. It reached #11 on the Billboard Hot 100. You can get it on this various artists budget comp. Keane produced a Holden album with future Beach Boy Bruce Johnston. But Holden was unable to score another hit single. Holden continued to perform and he owned a Seattle nightclub. He died on Jan. 22, 1997 at age 57 in Mexico where he was playing a gig. Here's a video for Love You So by Ron Holden.
