Artist:Blue Note All Stars
Song:Cycling Through Reality
Album:Our Point of View
This all star band was put together to celebrate the 75th anniversary of Blue Note Records. This band is different from the 1996 Blue Note All Stars. Blue Note president Don Was produced with pianist Robert Glasper. It was recorded at Capitol Records in Hollywood. The musicians are all guys who currently record for Blue Note including Glasper of course, Ambrose Akinmusire on trumpet, Marcus Strickland on sax, Lionel Loueke on guitar and vocals, Derrick Hodge on bass and Kendrick Scott on drums. Herbie Hancock and Wayne Shorter appear on one track. Most of the songs are original compositions. Scott wrote Cycling Through Reality. He first recorded it on his 2013 album Conviction on Concord. This 2CD album was released in 2017. They toured but similar to the 1996 Blue Note All Stars, this band was a one shot deal. All these guys have very busy careers. Jazz fans should check this album out as it's a good way to discover new musicians. Here's the Blue Note All Stars performing Cycling Through Reality at Capitol Studios in Hollywood 2017.
