Alicia Morton appeared on Broadway as a child and then starred in this 1999 TV production of the Broadway musical Annie. She continued acting as an adult but is no longer in show business. She was born Apr. 29,1987 in Gonzales, LA which the Jambalaya Capitol of the World. She was 7 when she played Cosette in the 1996 Broadway production of Les Miserables. Of course Annie is the Broadway musical based on the Little Orphan Annie comic strip. It was turned into a 1982 film. After the success of the 1996 production of Rodgers & Hammerstein's Cinderella, Disney asked producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron to do the same thing with Annie. Zadan and Meron were so impressed with Rob Marshall's choreography on Cinderella that they wanted him to direct Annie. Marshall has gone on to a successful directing career. Alicia beat 3,000 girls to win the role of Annie. The cast included Victor Garber as Daddy Warbucks, Audra McDonald as Grace Farrell and Kathy Bates as Miss Hannigan. Annie did well in the ratings when it aired on Nov. 7, 1999. It is generally considered to be better than the 1982 film. A soundtrack album is available on CD. Alicia returned home and graduated from high school in 2005. She studied music at Tulane University and appeared in regional theater. Alicia appeared in a couple of Lifetime films and the 2007 film The Thirst. But she ultimately returned home to teach high school drama. She currently works as a veterinary technician in nearby Prairieville, LA. Here's Alicia Morton with Orphans performing It's a Hard-Knock Life on the 1999 TV production of Annie.
