AccuRadio Song Of The Day-Men at Large

Artist:Men at Large

Song:So Alone

Album:Men at Large

The 1993 single So Alone was the biggest hit for the R&B duo Men at Large. The group name is because Dave Tolliver and Jason Champion are both hefty guys. They are from Cleveland. Of course when I think of Cleveland R&B, I think of The O'Jays. And I also think of Gerald Levert who was the son of Eddie Levert of The O'Jays. He was a big star in in the 90s and he was able to get his homeboys a record deal with Atlantic's EastWest label. He even got them an appearance on The Arsenio Hall Show. Of course Levert produced their 1992 album Men at Large. So Alone was the fourth single and it reached #31 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #5 on the R&B chart. They performed So Alone on Arsenio. Tolliver dedicated So Alone to his late mother. Though they wrote a couple of songs on the album, So Alone was written and produced by Edwin Nicholas. He produced most of the album with Levert and also played keyboards and drums. Nicholas is a Cleveland native. Men at Large's 1994 album One Size Fits All had the same producers. Both albums did OK in the R&B market. Then they split up. Tolliver attempted to keep Men at Large going by recording a 1999 album with a different partner. Champion got into Contemporary Gospel and after appearing on albums by Kirk Franklin and Men of Standard, he released the 2007 album Reflections on EMI Gospel. He was supposed to record a second gospel album with producer Warryn Campbell but it never happened. Champion and Tolliver reunited and Men at Large released the album Love Benefits in June. Here's the video for So Alone by Men at Large.
