Though he has done movies and TV, J. Robert Spencer is mainly known as a Broadway performer. He was nominated for a Tony for the 2009 musical Next To Normal. He was born Feb. 12, 1969 in York, PA. He graduated from Shenandoah University's musical theater program in 1991 and moved to New York. His first big role on Broadway was as Nick Massi in the 2005 show Jersey Boys and that led to the 2009 show Next To Normal as Dan Goodman. Next To Normal is about a mother struggling with bipolar illness played by Alice Ripley. Spencer plays her husband. He was nominated for a Tony. The show won four Tonys. Spencer has appeared in movies and TV but nothing notable. He seems to do a lot of voice work. Lately he has produced low budget films through his own production company.
