AccuRadio Song Of The Day-Carroll Thompson

Artist:Carroll Thompson

Song:I'm So Sorry

Album:This Is Lovers Rock

Backup singer Carroll Thompson had success on the British charts in the early 80s with a style of reggae known as Lovers Rock. This was popular mostly in England. Carroll was known as the Queen of Lovers Rock. She was born in 1960 in Letchworth, Hertfordshire, England. Her parents are Jamaican. She grew up singing in church. While studying for a career in the pharmaceutical industry, Carroll started singing background vocals in various recording studios. This led to a successful audition for a group to be called Sugar Cane from Boney M producer Frank Farian. When that was abandoned, Carroll returned to background singing for Imagination and Norma White. After releasing a single for the German label Hansa, she met Jamaican born producer Leonard Chin. She recorded the 1981 album Hopelessly in Love. She topped the British reggae charts with I'm So Sorry. Carroll wrote the song. The album did well and Carroll won several awards in England. Unfortunately the album is out of print. But you can get I'm So Sorry on this various artists digital download. After that Carroll joined the group Floy Joy. They recorded a couple of albums. Since then she has recorded occasionally. But mostly she has been a session singer and she has also worked behind the scenes as a composer and producer. She last recorded in 2011 and she continues to perform in clubs. Here's Carroll Thompson performing I'm So Sorry at The Hideaway in London May 20, 2017.
