Here's the match video of Mackenzie Dern vs Ashley Yoder from last night's UFC show in Las Vegas. The much hyped Mackenzie was making her UFC debut. Of course she's a 24 year old BJJ champ. She trains at Benson Henderson's MMA Lab in Phoenix trained by John Crouch. She obviously has skills but lacks experience. Ashley trains at Quest in California which is owned by Dan Henderson. She was in TUF 23. She's probably not a UFC caliber fighter. But she is a southpaw and that threw Mackenzie off. I didn't think Mackenzie was going to lose because Ashley doesn't generate enough offense. But Mackenzie had trouble executing her offense especially in round two. So Ashley was a bit of a puzzle for Mackenzie which was why there was so much clinching on the fence. They split the first two rounds. Mackenzie finally figured Ashley out in round three and she almost got a submission when the fight ended. I scored it 29-28 for Mackenzie. The judges gave her a split decision but that was because Adelaide Byrd was one of the judges and she was screwing up all night. Because of all the hype about Mackenzie, I'm sure some fans were unimpressed with her performance. Just keep in mind she is only 24 years old and very green at MMA. She says she wants to fight at UFC 224 in Brazil. I think you will see her make progress in every fight. She needs to listen to Crouch as he is a great coach. Enjoy the video!
