AccuRadio Song of The Day-Patrick Dopson

Artist:Patrick Dopson
Song:Keep Me
Album:Open The Heavens

Keep Me was a hit single on the Gospel charts in 2013. Anyone who hears it will think that it's another great Fred Hammond song. That's what I thought. But it's actually by Patrick Dopson who not only sounds like Hammond but resembles him. And Hammond and several of his musicians and singers appear on this album. He was born Aug. 24, 1978 in Montgomery, AL. His parents are pastors so obviously he grew up singing in church. In addition to music, Dopson is a graphic artist who designed his own album cover and has designed covers for others. Dopson appeared on Fred Hammond's 2006 CD Free To Worship and the 2007 CD Nothing But Worship by John P. Kee's New Life Community Choir. He started his own label and released the 2012 CD Open The Heavens. The single Keep Me did well on the Gospel charts mostly because Dopson did what a lot of gospel artists don't do. He produced a music video extolling the virtues of adoption. That appealed to the gospel music fanbase. Dopson wrote and produced all the songs with Noel Hall who normally plays keyboards for Hammond. Chuck Bethany co-wrote several of the songs and he also works with Hammond. I'm sure there was plenty of confusion when fans heard this song and found out it wasn't Fred Hammond. Will it hurt Dopson? I don't think so. Israel Houghton sounds like Hammond and he is very successful. We'll find out soon enough. Dopson says on Twitter he will release a new CD this year. Here's the video for Keep Me by Patrick Dopson.
