AccuRadio Song Of The Day-Toby Beau

Artist:Toby Beau
Song:My Angel Baby
Album:Do You Love Me?: All-Time Best Love Songs

I'm willing to bet you heard My Angel Baby when it was a top 20 hit in 1978. And you might think it's an Eagles song. But it was recorded by the band Toby Beau. It was their only big hit. Toby Beau was from San Antonio, TX led by lead singer and guitarist Balde Silva and lead guitarist Danny McKenna. Other members were Ron Rose on guitar, mandolin and banjo, Steve Zipper on bass and Rob Young on drums. They signed with RCA and their 1978 debut album Toby Beau was produced by KISS producer Sean Delaney. My Angel Baby was the first single and it reached #13 on the Billboard Hot 100. It also topped the Adult Contemporary chart. It was all downhill from there as neither the band or RCA were happy with Toby Beau's second album. It was scrapped and a new album recorded. McKenna was still unhappy with the 1979 album More Than A Love Song. He left followed by the rest of the band leaving Silva to record the 1980 album If You Believe. Then RCA dropped them. You can get My Angel Baby on this RCA various artists budget comp. McKenna died in 2006. But Silva continues to tour South Texas as Toby Beau accompanied by his wife and family members. He seems to do a lot of cruise ships which is not unusual for nostalgia acts. Here's a video for My Angel Baby by Toby Beau.
