AccuRadio Song Of The Day-Karen Elson

Artist:Karen Elson
Song:The Ghost Who Walks
Album:The Ghost Who Walks

I'm sure that cynicism is the usual reaction when most folks discover that British singer songwriter Karen Elson was a top fashion model as a teen or that she is married to White Stripes frontman Jack White. You don't want to buy into that. Karen's 2010 debut CD The Ghost Who Walks is outstanding. She was born Jan. 14, 1979 in Oldham, Manchester, England. Her twin sister Kate Elson has been a model and is currently a filmmaker. Karen was discovered at age 16 and got her big break when Steven Meisel put her on the cover of Vogue for her 18th birthday. She became one of the world's top fashion models and in 1998 was named Top Model at the VH1 Fashion Awards. She is currently the face of St. John and YSL Opium perfume amd she is launching her own line of bags and shoes this fall with Nine West. She started dabbling in music in 2003 with the New York performance group The Citizens Band. She also sang backup vocals on Robert Plant's 2003 CD Dreamland and sang a duet with Cat Power on a 2006 Serge Gainsbourg tribute album. She met Jack White on the set of the 2005 music video Blue Orchid. They were married June 1, 2005 and settled in Nashville. They have two children. White was aware of Karen's musical ambitions and kept bugging her to record. Her debut CD The Ghost Who Walks was released May 2010 on White's Third Man label. Karen says The Ghost Who Walks was a nickname she had as a child because of her pale skin. The album did very well in the Indie music market. Get past the fashion model stuff and I think you'll enjoy Karen's music. Jack White and Karen Elson announced plans to divorce last month. Her CD was distributed by XL Recordings, the folks behind Adele. I think she'll be OK. Here's the video for The Ghost Who Walks by Karen Elson.
