AccuRadio Song Of The Day-Face To Face

Artist:Face To Face
Song:10-9-8
Album:Another Lost Decade: The '80s Hard To Find Hits

Here's a one hit wonder from the height of the New Wave era of the early 80s. 10-9-8 was a top 40 hit for Face To Face in 1984. The are not to be confused with the 90s punk band from California also called Face To Face. This Face To Face was formed in New Hampshire with lead singer Laurie Sargent, guitarist Stu Kimball, keyboard player and songwriter Angelo Petraglia, bassist John Ryder and drummer Billy Beard. They moved to Boston in 1980 and signed with Epic Records in 1982 and their debut CD Face To Face was released in 1984. The album didn't do all that well but the single 10-9-8 reached #38 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #7 on the dance chart. 10-9-8 was written by Petraglia and produced by Boston DJ turned producer Arthur Baker. He would later become a house producer for Tommy Boy Records. Their 1985 CD Confrontation didn't sell and Epic dropped them. Face To Face recorded a third CD for PolyGram in 1988 and then split up. You can get 10-9-8 on this Time Life various artists budget CD. Face To Face also appeared as The Attackers in the film Streets Of Fire. And though Laurie Sargent did not appear in the film, her vocals were used in the film. Laurie Sargent recorded a couple of solo albums and is currently lead singer of Twinemen which includes members of the defunct band Morphine. Stu Kimball also works with that band and has toured with Bob Dylan. Billy Beard books a club in Boston and plays in a band on the side. Angelo Petraglia won a 2010 Record Of The Year Grammy for producing Kings Of Leon. Here's the video for 10-9-8 by Face To Face.
