The front door of Shinjuku FACE |
I'm sure you already know by now that there was a massive earthquake in Japan today. I'm not getting into details because you can find out about it elsewhere. Because the epicenter was in Sendai, I'm very concerned about the Sendai Girls joshi puroresu company because that's where they are. I have not heard anything but I will keep an eye on the situation. Of course the main thing is that today's JEWELS show was cancelled and the good news is that everyone involved with the show is fine. Most of the fighters had already arrived at Shinjuku and spent the night at the DEEP dojo which is nearby. Mika Nagano posted some pics on her blog. JEWELS management also spent the night at the DEEP dojo. It appears that trains and some roads are reopening Saturday morning. Most of the fighters live in Tokyo so they have to go home and see what is broken. But they're all fine. The hotel where Jessica Aguilar and Danielle West were staying is also nearby. Danielle was out shopping when the quake hit but she's fine. Jessica was in her hotel room. The hotel shook very hard. She is fine but freaking out. One of the airports is open so she is trying to get a flight out and has had one flight delayed already. When I looked at Twitter a few minutes ago, it looks like her ride to the airport is coming. That could change but hopefully she gets out of there soon. The big concern was for Megumi Fujii. When the quake hit, she was on her way to the show. Thankfully, she is fine. She was stuck on a train for a while and eventually went home to her cats. Megumi is concerned about her brother who lives in Sendai. Sunday's Pancrase show in Osaka has also been cancelled so Hitomi Akano will not fight in her hometown. The big thing out of all this is that the building containing Korakuen Hall has structural damage. So any show that was supposed to be there ain't happening. There are fights scheduled there every day. For example, there was a big boxing show scheduled for Monday that has been cancelled. Shooto was supposed to run there and so was OZ Academy. Both are cancelled. I expect we'll see some venue scrambling in the near future. The Japanese fight business is bad enough as it is right now. This is the last thing they needed. But so far it looks like most folks are OK but I am concerned about Sendai Girls.
