Monday was a very bad day for women's wrestling

For starters, Awesome Kong left TNA yesterday meaning the Knockouts division will get worse. She asked for her release last month after the Bubba incident but there was more to it than that. AK didn't like the direction they were going. She wasn't being booked properly. Fans have asked me if TNA is worse since Hogan & Bischoff have come in. I don't think there has been much difference. TNA has been worse since Vince Russo got complete control of the writing back in September. Most of the complaints about TNA today are the same as before. The common denominator is Russo. Meanwhile, WWE RAW did another idiotic women's match in an effort to get the guest host over, in this case Cheech & Chong. It was a pillow fight this time. They've done this several times since they've had the guest hosts. Think of something else to do. And apparently Gail Kim got hurt.

And that brings me to the premiere of Wrestlicious last night on BITE in Canada and Mav TV in the US. So we all know that this is an attempt to revive GLOW, a concept that wasn't very successful 20 years ago. So I don't know why anyone would think it would be successful today. The main culprit is Johnny Cafarelli who appears as the ring announcer Johnny C. He also produced a previous attempt to revive this same concept called CRUSH. There are a couple of problems with the show. Anyone who remembers GLOW will remember the groan inducing skits. Guess what? Wrestlicious is written by the same guy. He hasn't learned anything. So you have to sit through these ridiculous skits to get to any matches. And they've hired some good wrestlers but they've also hired untrained models as wrestlers. And they've given them horrible stereotypical characters and bad costumes. The show even looks like GLOW. It's very poor quality. The main match was a six woman match featuring Mercedes Martinez, Rain, Lorelei Lee, Amber O'Neal and two models. It's not much of a payoff because these guys want to reinvent the wheel. For example, Amber O'Neal's appeal as a wrestler is she's a very good wrestler who is very good at playing up her sex appeal as a heel. So they give her a horrible looking southern belle costume that completely obscures Amber O'Neal's appeal. It's ludicrous. I don't blame the wrestlers for taking the gig. A payday is a payday. But the show is crap and Johnny Cafarelli is a moron. BITE has posted the debut episode online and you can watch it right here on my blog. Decide for yourself.

All in all, I would say I have seen worse, anybody remember WOW, Women of Wrestling, now that was bad. Yeah the skits were stupid and the costumes corny, except for Mercedes, just something about latin women and me, but the action was decent. Do hope they improve on the camera angles and what not, sometimes it seemed like the action was to close and then sometimes far away. Also towards the finish I thought we wouldn't get to see the finisher cause the way the camera cuts were it was all over the place.
