Jango Song Of The Day-Toad The Wet Sprocket

Artist:Toad The Wet Sprocket
Song:All I Want
Album:Playlist: The Very Best Of Toad The Wet Sprocket

All I Want was the breakthrough hit for Toad The Wet Sprocket in 1991. They went on to have two platinum albums before splitting up in 1998. The leader of the group was singer songwriter guitarist Glen Phillips (born Dec. 29, 1970 in Santa Barbara, CA). He formed Toad The Wet Sprocket in 1986 while he was still attending high school. Other members were Todd Nichols on guitar, Dean Dinning on bass and Randy Guss on drums. The group name is from a Monty Python sketch. The released their debut album Bread & Circus in 1989 on their own label. While recording their second album Pale, they signed with Columbia. They recorded their third album Fear with recording engineer Gavin McKillop credited as producer. The band wrote all their own songs so it's not like they needed a producer. All I Want was the second single and reached #15 on the Billboard Hot 100. It would turn out to be their biggest chart hit. Fear reached #49 on the Billboard Hot 200 and eventually went platinum. Their 1994 CD Dulcinea also went platinum and a 1995 CD of B-sides called Light Syrup went gold because Good Intentions was featured in the TV series Friends. Their 1997 CD Coil didn't do as well on the charts and the group wasn't getting along anyway so they split up in 1998. This comp is a good intro to their music. Glen Phillips has gone on to a solo career and works frequently with the outstanding bluegrass group Nickel Creek. The other three member started a band called Lapdog. They released one CD and split up in 2001. Toad The Wet Sprocket has reformed periodically and they toured last summer. Here's the video for All I Want by Toad The Wet Sprocket.
