Yahoo LAUNCHCAST Song Of The Day-Peggy Seeger

Artist:Peggy Seeger
Song:For A Job
Album:An Odd Collection

Peggy Seeger is the half sister of folk music's living legend Pete Seeger and Mike Seeger of the New Lost City Ramblers. So it's not surprising that she a noted folk singer and activist herself. But she's best known for her long partnership and marriage to British folksinger Ewan MacColl and she lived in England for many years. She was born June 17, 1935 in New York City. After majoring in music at Radcliffe College, she started performing professionally in 1955. Peggy travelled around Europe and settled in England in 1959. It was there that she met MacColl and inspired his song The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face. He was known for championing the traditions of British folk music and Peggy assisted him with that and wrote her own songs as well. After MacColl died in 1989, Peggy moved back to the US and currently lives in Boston. She has recorded frequently with Irish folk singer Irene Scott. An Odd Collection is an album they recorded for Rounder in 1996. For A Job is a pretty funny song about a deadbeat boyfriend. She currently records for Appleseed Records and her latest CD Bring Me Home was released in Jan. 2008. Peggy Seeger got quite a bit of publicity during the presidential campaign for her videos about President Barack Obama and Sarah Palin. So here's the video for Obama Is The One For Me and you can check out Peggy Seeger's other activities at her website http://www.pegseeger.com/ Like a lot of folksingers who are topical, the website is the best place to listen to her latest music.
