Fuuka talks retirement

Before people get on my case about the headline, Fuuka isn't retiring. But she does talk about retirement in a new interview with Sportsnavi. When she did a similar interview last year, she said that if her scheduled 5th anniversary didn't sell out, she would retire from joshi. The problem was that no one believed her and the rumour wouldn't go away. So retirement is the primary topic of this interview. When asked about her match against Kyoko Kimura in the second show, Fuuka said she hadn't wrestled Kimura for almost three years and also she wanted to wrestle someone perceived as younger than older wrestlers like Nanae Takahashi, AKINO or Yumiko Hotta. Of course Kimura is actually older than Takahashi but Takahashi is more experienced. She said the reason they decided to do two shows is that some fans can't attend the afternoon show and this gives them the opportunity to go to the evening show instead. She said she is also looking forward to teaming with Takahashi on the daytime show. Of course there will be singing & dancing as well. When asked about retirement, she admitted that she was a little burnt out last year but performing at Arena Mexico and shoot boxing has reinvigorated her. Now she won't commit one way or the other. She says she may retire next year or she may not retire next year. That's probably what she should have said last year. She said that at the time she really wanted to retire after the 5th anniversary. Fuuka said she would like to do more shoot boxing and may do that as her primary vocation if the opportunity is presented to her. So she may cut back on her wrestling schedule. She was asked if she saw DEEP Lightweight Champ MIKU in at shoot boxing on Feb. 11. Fuuka was there and was very impressed with MIKU. Is she interested in fighting her? Well, maybe. The Sportsnavi interviewer was very persistent about the retirement issue and it indicates that Fuuka gets bored and distracted with joshi but she obviously realizes now that she should never commit to a retirement date. I hope she learned her lesson.
