Song:Alabama
Album:Soul Gravy
Despite their name, the alt country rock band Cross Canadian Ragweed aren't Canadian. They are part of what is called the "Red Dirt" music scene of Oklahoma and have built their fanbase through strong live performances. The name is actually a combination of three of the four band mambers. Cody Canada is lead singer and lead guitarist. Grady Cross is rhythm guitarist. Jeremy Plato is the bassist and Randy Ragsdale is the drummer. They started out in the college town of Stillwater, OK in 1994 playing gigs in Oklahoma & Texas. They released a couple of albums on their own label Underground Sound and got a lot of college radio play before signing with Universal South in 2002. The 2004 CD Soul Gravy was their second CD on Universal and was their first CD working with producer Mike McClure from the alt country group The Great Divide. Soul Gravy was their breakthrough CD and reached #5 on the country album charts. This was fueled by the hit Sick And Tired featuring Lee Ann Womack. Alabama was the follow up single and also did well. Cody Canada wrote most of the songs on the album. Though Cross Canadian Ragweed is classified as country, there's no question that Southern Rock is a big part of their sound. Their latest CD Mission California was released in Oct. 2007 and not only reached #6 on the country album charts but reached #30 on the Billboard pop album charts. They continue to widen their fanbase and have a bright future. Here's the video for Alabama by Cross Canadian Ragweed.
