Artist:Craig David
Song:Personal
Album:Slicker Than Your Average
Craig David is a very talented young R & B singer songwriter from England. He made a big splash a few years ago but his US record company soured on him and he is making a successful return. He was born May 5, 1981 in Southampton, England. His father is from Grenada and played in the 80s reggae band Ebony Rockers. David was playing local clubs when he got together with Mark Hill of the group Artful Dodger. David first recorded with the group Damage but Hill shut down Artful Dodger to concentrate on David's music. His 2000 debut CD Born To Do It was a huge success in England and when Fill Me In reached #1 on the British charts, he became the youngest male solo artist to do that. Atlantic Records signed him in the US and Born To Do It did well in the US. Slicker Than Your Average is the 2002 follow up. It did well in England but for some reason Atlantic seemed to sour on David. He did this video for Personal but it was never released. And Atlantic never released his 2005 CD The Story Goes. He continued to be very popular in England so I'm not sure what Atlantic's problem was. Craig David writes a lot of his own songs and his talent as a singer is obvious. So he signed in the US with Sire/Warner and his reworking of the David Bowie song Let's Dance retitled Hot Stuff got him back on the US charts. His new CD Trust Me was released last month. His primary producer is his longtime mixmaster pal Fraser Smith. I've been a Craig David fan since I first heard him a few years ago. It's good to see him back on the US charts. Here's the video for Personal by Craig David. The girl is Roselyn Sanchez from the TV show Without A Trace.
