Yeah, I know that the May 31 Korakuen Hall LLPW show was Obacchi Iizuka's retirement show. But I've never liked her old woman gimmick so I'm not going to talk about her much. There was a more interesting development in the main event featuring one of my faves. Excuse me for showing favoritism. Obacchi Iizuka trained at JD over ten years ago and spent the bulk of her career there. She was given this comedy gimmick early on and never really strayed from it much. The problem is all her matches are the same. She didn't even change it after she left JD Star in 2004 and was out with shoulder surgery for about a year. She just went to LLPW and used the same gimmick. Maybe the gimmick loses something in translation but I've never come across anyone who likes it.
The opener was fairly standard. Harley Saito defeated Ayako Sato with a soccer kick to the face at 9;20. Sato has been doing jobs in LLPW for a while now. Next was the LLPW trannies. Sawaco beat TODOE with a ballerina kick at 5:23. Next was Obacchi Iizuka's retirement match against her old JD pal Megumi Yabushita. Iizuka wore a kimono instead of her standard ring attire. Yabushita won with a flash pin in 8 seconds. This is normal for an Iizuka match. She gets pinned while she's doing her comedy shtick. The other part of this is she uses the old woman gimmick to get the crowd to feel sorry for her and the match restarts. I guess she got more serious on this occasion and busted out the Sky Twister Press to win at 13:11. That's pretty funny. They had the usual retirement ceremony afterwards. Several JD wrestlers appeared including KAZUKI, Hiroyo Muto & Sachie Abe sporting an eyepatch. Muto took the opportunity to announce her retirement at her 10th anniversary show in December. Obacchi Iizuka is planning to join her family's restaurant business.
Next up was Eiger & Sayuri Okino vs Shinobu Kandori & Jumbo Hori. The end came when Okino sprayed Kandori with mist giving her the opportunity to lariat Hori for the win at 11:51. The main event was Yumiko Hotta & Blue Wolf vs Tateno Noriyo & Takako Inoue. Takako has been heavily involved in this angle. It was the usual nonsense with outside interference and Takako using her stun gun. The end came when Blue Wolf accidently nailed Hotta with a chair and Tateno got the pin at 13:05. Actually, Hotta and Blue Wolf were quarrelling during the match. They continued to bicker after the match until Takako crossed the ring and shook hands with Hotta. Takako described this on her blog as a "magnificent betrayal". She said that the two used facial expressions during the match to give clues to this heel turn. Once a heel, always a heel. Takako seemed to enjoy herself immensely.
