Nakajima regains JWP Junior Title

JWP returned to Osaka for the first time in eight years with their June 8 show at Taisho Azeria in front of 300 fans. The title match on the show had Sendai Girls' Tyrannosaurus Okuda defending the JWP Junior & POP Titles against Arisa Nakajima. They're also setting up the first challenger to Kayako Haruyama's JWP Open Weight Title. They haven't announced anything but it's likely to be Ran YuYu. Azumi Hyuga had her knee surgery. Bolshoi said her surgeon is the same one to have worked on baseball stars Hideki Matsui & Dice-K. The Haruyama/Hyuga title match is now up on Veoh and you should take the time to watch it.

The opener had Yumi Ohka vs Pinkie Mayuca. They exchange forearms and dropkicks until Ohka gets Mayuca in a Boston crab and then a single leg crab. Mayuca almost wins with a small package but Ohka goes back to working on her legs. Mayuca comes back with a cross body and an elbow drop. But she misses a splash from the top rope. Ohka hits a double arm suplex but Mayuca almost wins again with a sunset flip. Mayuca hits a missile dropkick but misses a splash again. Ohka hits a missile dropkick and Mayuca's backslide almost gets her a win. Ohka's high kick sets up her win by submission with the Bloody X at 14:16.

Next up is KAZUKI vs Kana. Kana gets KAZUKI in a camel clutch. But KAZUKI comes back with a knee to the stomach and turns Kana over for a Boston crab. Kana comes back with a hip attack but KAZUKI's strategy is to attack Kana's midsection to sap her strength. First a knee to the stomach and Kana follows her to the top rope. She gets pushed off. KAZUKI drapes Kana over the second rope and hits a knee drop. Then she hits a diving knee drop. Then another knee to the stomach. Kana hits a German suplex but KAZUKI counters with a backdrop suplex. Kana almost gets the win with a sunset flip but KAZUKI finishes her with the K-Crusher at 13:32.

Now it's time for Tyrannosaurus Okuda to defend the JWP Junior & POP Titles against Arisa Nakajima. Nakajima was wearing a new black costume resembling a French maid uniform. The Japanese love French maids. I was expecting a title change so I'm not surprised that Nakajima came out aggressively with a German suplex and a low dropkick followed by a surfboard. Okuda comes back with a toehold followed by a camel clutch. Nakajima gets control with a jumping knee, kicks and a forearm. But Okuda hits a jumping knee and a missile dropkick. Nakajima hits a swinging DDT and a missile dropkick. She goes to the top but gets Okuda's knees. Okuda hits a jumping knee but Nakajima counters with an avalanche style SPX followed by a Cutie Special for the win 10:27. So Nakajima is the new champ and Okuda apologized to her fans on her Sendai Girls blog. It wasn't surprising.

Next was Kaori Yoneyama & GAMI vs Toshie Uematsu & Devil Masami. It looks like it was designed as a Yoneyama showcase. She controls Uematsu for the first part of the match with a camel clutch. Yoneyama is always very expressive. Devil tags in and stops her with a power bomb. GAMI comes in and Uematsu traps her in their corner with kicks. But then GAMI does her rope walking with the megaphone and powerslams Uematsu. It's mostly comedy oriented with Yoneyama doing some comedy with Devil. The end comes with Yoneyama's Cutie Special being broken up but she wins over Uematsu with a rollup at 15:22.

The main event had Kayoko Haruyama, Tsubasa Kuragaki & Tojuki Leon vs Commando Bolshoi, Kei 'to' & Ran YuYu. Of course Wrestling Booking 101 has the current champ (Haruyama) facing the likely challenger (Ran) in tag matches eying each other warily. We see it so much that I'd maybe like them to do something different. The match begins with Kei 'to' kicking Haruyama and Ran tags in. The two have a test of strength. Ran gets the edge with a high kick. Leon tags in and nails Ran with a dropkick. Bolshoi tags in and does her usual lucha style shtick and follows with an Argentinian backbreaker on Leon. Bolshoi drops to her knees with a backbreaker for two. Kei 'to' tags in and Leon hits her with a dropkick. Kuragaki follows with a missile dropkick. Bolshoi tags in and Kuragaki gets her in a gorilla press but Bolshoi turns it into an octopus hold. Bolshoi & Kei 'to' double team Kuragaki but Kuragaki double suplexes them. Leon spears Bolshoi and double dropkicks Bolshoi & Ran. Then she takes Bolshoi to the floor and bangs her head into a chair. Back in the ring, Bolshoi uses her agility to get Leon in a German suplex for two. Kei 'to misses a high kick but hits an insiguri on Leon. But Leon hits her own kick and folds up Kei 'to' for two. Then Leon hits a frog splash. Haruyama's German suplex gets two. Then you have one of those elaborate moves with Haruyama, Bolshoi & Ran on the top turnbuckle. Kuragaki grabs Ran and it turns into a power bomb suplex combo. Then Kuragaki picks up Ran & Bolshoi in an Argentine backbreaker. They're flying all over the place but the end comes when Kuragaki gets Ran in a Splah Mountain but is saved by Leon. Ran blocks a lariat and hits a flying forearm for the win at 23:22. Afterwards, Haruyama confronted Ran to ask if she planned to challenge for the title. My guess is that's exactly what will happen.

  1. Nakajima's new uniform does resemble a french maid costume. Anyway, it was a great and well-executed match.
