Song:Good Lover
Album:Good 4 We
Ed Baden-Powell and Kwame Kwaten were a big part of England's Acid Jazz movement of the 90s as producers and also as leaders of the group D-Influence. They had success in England with singles like Good Lover. The band was lead singer Sarah Anne Webb, Ed Baden-Powell on piano and guitar, Kwame Kwaten on bass and synthesizer and Steve Marston on alto sax, flute and percussion. Marston was a session musician before joining D-Influence. After releasing a 1990 single on Acid Jazz Records, D-Influence signed with Atlantic's EastWest label. Good 4 We was the debut album and Good Lover was the first single. They did well enough especially in England to release three albums in the 90s. Like a lot of Acid Jazz groups, most of D-Influence's success was in clubs. And their music is still good today because Acid Jazz was just another name for R&B. They went on to produce artists like Adeva, Ultra Nate, Eric Benet and Heather Headley. Kwaten also manages artists. And Baden-Powell is an entertainment lawyer. They reformed D-Influence in 2017 to play a few gigs. They have no plans to record. I guess they are doing that for recreation. Here's D-Influence performing Good Lover at the 1995 Montreux Jazz Festival.
