AccuRadio Song Of The Day-Charlotte D'Amboise

Artist:Charlotte D'Amboise
Song:I'm Flying
Album:Jerome Robbins' Broadway: Original Broadway Cast Recording

Charlotte D'Amboise got her big break and her first Tony nomination for her performance in the 1989 show Jerome Robbins' Broadway. She is playing Peter Pan in this performance of I'm Flying though she never appeared in a production of Peter Pan. She was born May 11, 1964 in New York City. Her parents are dancers Jacques D'Amboise and Carolyn George and her brother Christopher D'Amboise is also a dancer. She made her Broadway debut as Cassandra in Cats in 1983. She met her actor husband Terrance Mann on that show and they have two daughters. Charlotte also starred in the ill fated 1988 musical adaptation of Carrie. The show closed after three performances. But she got her big break in the 1989 musical Jerome Robbins' Broadway. I guess this is a Broadway equivalent of a jukebox musical. The show is a greatest hits of veteran director and choreographer Jerome Robbins tied together by narrator Jason Alexander. It also stars Faith Prince and Debbie Shapiro. I'm Flying from Peter Pan is Charlotte's big number from the show. She also sings America from West Side Story. The show opened Feb. 1989 and ran until Sept. 1990. So it had a very successful run. And it was nominated for six Tonys and it won four including Best Musical. Charlotte was nominated but did not win. She was also nominated for a Tony for her performance as Cassie in the 2006 production of A Chorus Line. She has played Roxie Hart in touring productions of Chicago. Her most recent show was a 2013 revival of Pippin starring with her husband. Charlotte has done some film and TV but nothing significant. The cast recording of Jerome Robbins' Broadway is available on CD. Here's Charlotte D'Amboise performing I'm Flying on Kennedy Center Honors Mary Martin 1989. Of course Mary was the first to play Peter Pan on Broadway.
