Last night the UFC announced that a women's bantamweight fight has been added to the Nov. 15 show in Mexico City. This will be the UFC's first show ever in Mexico. It will be Jessica Eye vs Leslie Smith. It looks like this match will be on the prelims. Since Jessica lost by split decision to Alexis Davis in February, she's been sitting around waiting for a fight. I don't know what the UFC was waiting for but there is no excuse for any fighter to sit around that long. I think what Jessica learned from the loss to Alexis is to be more aggressive. I scored her winning that fight but the judges didn't. Leslie's first UFC win was by TKO over Jessamyn Duke. I think Jessica is a big step up in competition for her. Neither of these girls likes the ground game too much. So conventional wisdom says that it will remain standing. But Leslie has ground skills so she could use a different strategy for this fight. She has done that before. Leslie also has a reach advantage. The way for Jessica to neutralize that is in the clinch with dirty boxing. But that could result in a takedown. So this is an interesting fight especially if Leslie changes her usual strategy.
