Song:The Man I Love
Album:The Glory Of Gershwin
Kate Bush is a British singer songwriter who was very successful in the 80s. I plan to look at her career at some point in the future. The Man I Love is from a 1994 George and Ira Gershwin tribute album and it was a hit single in England. It looks like it was her final recording before she took a decade long hiatus from music. The idea to record The Glory Of Gershwin came from legendary producer George Martin as a celebration of harmonica master Larry Adler's 80th birthday. Adler was pals with the Gershwin brothers. Adler is best known for playing classical music on the harmonica and he has appeared in films and other media since the 30s. Martin got a bunch of pop singers to record Gershwin songs and Adler appeared on every song. Participants included Peter Gabriel, Sting, Elton John, Elvis Costello and Oleta Adams. Also Adler recorded Rhapsody In Blue with an orchestra conducted by Martin. Kate Bush recorded three songs with Adler which was released as a CD single. The Man I Love reached #26 on the British singles chart and the album reached #2 on the British album chart. So the album was successful and I think Kate gives a great performance. I'm not usually a fan of tribute albums but The Glory Of Gershwin is worth checking out. Here's the video for The Man I Love by Kate Bush featuring Larry Adler.
