Ham Seo Hee, Saori Ishioka |
DEEP JEWELS announced today that the main event of the Nov. 3 Shinjuku FACE show will have Ham Seo Hee defending her DEEP JEWELS Featherweight Championship against Saori Ishioka. This will be Ham's first appearance for DEEP JEWELS since Nov. 2013 when she defended the title against Sadae Manhoef. But she has fought twice for One FC in Korea. The party line is that Ham had never fought MMA in Korea before and it's something she always wanted to do. She had only done kickboxing there. But the whispers from Japan are that CMA Korea was holding up DEEP JEWELS for more money. And they wanted to show DEEP JEWELS matchmaker Shigeru Saeki that Ham did not have to return to DEEP JEWELS. But Saeki needs Ham especially with the likelihood that Ayaka Hamasaki and MIZUKI will fight for Invicta in the near furure. The DEEP JEWELS roster is thin already. Ishioka is just returning after two years off to have a baby. She won over Sarami on the May 18 DEEP JEWELS show. Should one win at 48kg be enough to get her a title shot? Probably not but Saeki thinks she's a star and DEEP JEWELS lacks star power. The two have fought twice before and Ham won both fights by unanimous decision. I don't expect this fight to end any differently. Ham is a much more polished striker than Ishioka. Could Ishioka take the fight to the ground? She could but karate is her training and she may think she can outpoint Ham. Neither of them has knockout power. This fight is scheduled for three five minute rounds and this show will air on UStream iPPV.
