AccuRadio Song Of The Day-Republica

Artist:Republica
Song:Ready To Go
Album:Republica

Ready To Go is a song you may have heard on a TV show or even at a sporting event. It was a hit especially on the dance floor in 1996. But you probably don't know anything about Republica because they weren't around very long. Lead singer Samantha "Saffron" Sprackling was born in Nigeria but she grew up in England. She appeared in the London production of Starlight Express. Keyboard player Tim Dorney was in the group Flowered Up. They released an album and a few singles in the early 90s. Andy Todd produced bands like Anne Linnet & Marquis De Sade and Prefab Sprout. Saffron had released a few singles and sang with N-Joi who had a dance hit in 1992 with Mindflux. The three started working together in 1995. Guitarist Johnny Male and drummer David Barbarossa were brought in and Republica was born. After one single, they signed with Deconstruction Records and they had success mostly in clubs with Ready To Go. Republica sounded like other groups of the era like Elastica and Lush. Sometimes sounding like an already successful band can lead to success. Unfortunately Deconstruction went out of business. RCA picked up the album Republica and released a remix of Ready To Go that was very popular in clubs. The song has been used in many movies and TV shows, most recently in the Captain Marvel trailer. It's also a Jock Jam that the NBA in particular used for years. The Boston Red Sox, Nashville Predators and Washington Capitals also use it. Republica's second album Speed Ballads was never released in the US. They went on hiatus in 2001. Saffron recorded with The Cure among others. Republica has reunited a few times mostly to tour. They did release an EP and a live album. Saffron also tours with her own band though she has not recorded. Just remember that Ready To Go still generates revenue through media use. That song is a money machine. Here's the video for Ready To Go by Republica.
