AccuRadio Song Of The Day-Nocera

Artist:Nocera
Song:Summertime, Summertime
Album:Sleeping Bag Records Greatest Freestyle Hits

Fame can be fleeting in dance music. The audience can be very fickle. Summertime, Summertime zoomed up the dance music charts in 1986. Lulu Nocera looked like she was going to be the next big thing. But she only released one album and her record company closed. Nocera was born in Sicily in 1967 and she grew up in Parma, Italy. She moved to New York at age 18 and signed with the dance music label Sleeping Bag Records. Their best known artist was Kurtis Mantronix. Summertime, Summertime reached #2 on Billboard's Dance Club Play chart in 1986. Nocera wrote and produced the song with Floyd Fisher who was keyboard player for TS Monk aka Thelonious Monk Jr. Mantronix worked on the mix. Then she released the 1987 album Over The Rainbow. One of her other songs Let's Go also charted. What I noticed about her is her voice is very thin. Here's a girl who writes and produces her own songs but she's not a great singer. Why is she singing? I suppose her looks helped. By the time she got around to recording a second album, Sleeping Bag went bankrupt. The British label Warlock owns their catalog and have released this various artists budget CD. Nocera became a backup singer most significantly for Information Society. She has released occasional singles as Bliss also with Fisher and as Voice of the Satellites. These days Nocera is a DJ and she works Freestyle nostalgia tours. Here's Nocera performing Summertime, Summertime on an 80s TV show.
