Twin brothers Evan and Jaron Lowenstein scored a top twenty hit in 2000 with Crazy For This Girl because it was featured on Dawson's Creek, a TV series very popular with teens. One would have thought it would have launched Evan and Jaron into stardom. But it didn't happen and they split up in 2004. They were born Mar. 18, 1974 in the Atlanta suburb of Tucker, GA. As teens, they worked the local coffee house circuit and released a CD independently in 1994. They were spotted by Jimmy Buffett and he signed them to Island Records. Their major label debut CD We've Never Heard Of You, Either was released in 1998. Unfortunately, this was at a time when Island was being swallowed by Universal and plenty of artists got lost in the shuffle including Evan and Jaron. They signed with Columbia and T-Bone Burnett produced Crazy For This Girl and it was used on Dawson's Creek. The song reached #15 on the Billboard Hot 100 and topped the Adult Contemporary chart. Jaron Lowenstein wrote the song with veteran songwriter Jeff Cohen. So what happened? For one thing, they are Orthodox Jews meaning they couldn't perform on Friday or Saturday night. And from what I can tell, Evan Lowenstein didn't like touring anyway and wanted to stay home and start a family. After the 2004 album Half Dozen was released independently, Evan and Jaron split up. They turned up on the ABC reality TV series American Inventor with something called a pit port. Jaron Lowenstein has returned as a country artist with Big Machine/Universal. His band was called Jaron and the Long Road To Love. His 2010 debut CD Getting Dressed In the Dark reached #2 on the Country Album chart. The single Pray For You reached #13 on the Country Singles chart and was certified Platinum. He has left Big Machine and formed The Cordovas. They released an album for free download last year. The band has been on tour but I haven't seen anything about a new label. Here's the video for Crazy For This Girl by Evan and Jaron.
