HIROKO sinks her teeth into Randi Miller |
JEWELS held a press conference today to add three more matches to their Dec. 17 Korakuen Hall show. This show is stacked already with three tournament finals. But now they have added a match that could have a major impact on the 145lb weight class. In a match contracted for 68kg, HIROKO will face Randi Miller. HIROKO trains at Master Japan. Her record is 10-1. Though this will be her MMA debut, most fans know that Randi won a Bronze medal in Freestyle Wrestling at the 2008 Olympics. She's from Granite City, IL and she trains at HIT Squad. I think it's fair to say that Randi's debut is one of the most eagerly anticipated debuts in recent women's MMA history. She was supposed to make her MMA debut against HIROKO on the Aug. 29 SHOOT BOXING show. But Randi suffered a broken hand in training and HIROKO won easily over Aussie kickboxer Sandy Furner. Unlimited ground and pound will be allowed in this match. As you can tell by the pic, HIROKO is very excited with this match. Because Randi is an accomplished wrestler, HIROKO plans to use her improved striking skills to weaken Randi and then take her down and pound on her. And she is aware that Randi is not just another debuting fighter. This is a big match on a global scale. In a match contracted for 55kg, MIYOKO will face Asami Higa. MIYOKO trains at GRABAKA. Her record is 1-2 and her last fight was a loss to Yukiko Seki on the July 31 JEWELS show. Asami trains at S-KEEP. This is her MMA debut but she was in an amateur match at the last JEWELS show. Mika Nagano also trains at S-KEEP. In a match contracted for 50kg, Emi Murata will face Anna. Murata trains at AACC. Her record is 1-1 and her last fight was a loss to MIZUKI on the Oct. 10 JEWELS show. Anna trains at FIGHT CHIX. her record is 1-4 and in her MMA return after a three year absense, she lost to Emi Fujino on last week's VALKYRIE show. JEWELS still hasn't announced an opponent for Saori Ishioka but this card is stacked already.
EDIT: Sorry folks. Randi Miller has pulled out due to...ahem...personal reasons. Draw your own conclusions.
Despite Miller's impressive amateur credentials, I can't help but think she's in way, way, way over her head, here.
ReplyDeletei agree, wrestling is just a part of MMA - an important part, but just a part
