AccuRadio Song Of The Day-Tina Turner

Artist:Tina Turner
Song:What's Love Got To Do With It?
Album:Private Dancer: Expanded Edition

Most folks should be familiar with Tina Turner's story. A movie was made about it. She made a very successful comeback in the 80s with the 1984 #1 hit What's Love Got To Do With It? It's her only #1 hit to date. She was born Anna Mae Bullock Nov. 26, 1939 in Nutbush, TN. Of course she had a lot of success in the 60s performing with her husband Ike Turner. In the early 70s, Ike's drug use led to erratic behaviour and physical abuse. Ike produced Tina's first solo album Tina Turns The Country On in 1974 and Tina got a lot of attention for her performance of Acid Queen in the 1975 film Tommy. Tina left Ike in 1976 and they divorced in 1978. She recorded two unsuccessful solo albums for United Artists in the late 70s and it seemed her career had stalled. But a 1983 cover of Al Green's Let's Stay Together reached #26 on the Billboard Hot 100 and that convinced Capitol to release Private Dancer in 1984. She worked with several producers on the album but the main guy behind it was British singwriter producer Terry Britten. He was known for his work with Cliff Richard. Britten co-wrote What's Love Got To Do With It? with Graham Lyle of Gallagher & Lyle. It was a #1 hit worldwide and also launched Private Dancer to the top of the charts. Britten joked that Richard rejected the song and heads rolled at his office. This expanded edition of Private Dancer was released in 1997 and is available as a budget CD. Tina continued to have success in the 80s. I'm don't think the music was that good. She continued to chart in the 90s but did fade and last recorded a studio album in 1999. Tina Turner still tours successfully and is considered a legend today. What's Love Got To Do With It? is the song that turned things around for her. Here's the video for What's Love Got To Do With It? by Tina Turner.
