Artist:Deana Carter
Song:Strawberry Wine
Album:Did I Shave My Legs For This?
Deana Carter topped the country music charts with her 1996 debut single Strawberry Wine. She recorded two albums for Capitol and had some other hits when her career was torpedoed by record company politics. Apparently she has a new record deal and is currently working on a new CD. She was born Jan. 4, 1966 and is the daughter of veteran Nashville session guitarist Fred Carter Jr. When she was unable to get a record deal as a teen, she became a nurse and continued to sing part time. One of her demos got the attention of Willie Nelson and he asked her to appear on Farm Aid VII. This led to a contract with Capitol Nashville. Her 1995 debut CD Did I Shave My Legs For This? was produced by veteran producer Jimmy Bowen. The CD reached #2 on the Billboard Country Album chart and #10 on the Billboard Hot 200. The debut single Strawberry Wine and the second single We Danced Anyway topped the Country Singles chart. Though Deana writes her own songs, both of those songs were were written by Matraca Berg. Matraca recorded in the late 90s but has been very successful as a songwriter. Deana's 1998 CD Everything's Gonna Be Alright didn't sell as well possibly because Bowen didn't produce it. She continued to record but managemement changes at Capitol Nashville caused problems for Deana and she left in 2001. Since then she has recorded for Rounder, Arista and her most recent CD The Chain was released in 2007 on Vanguard. Deana Carter announced earlier this year that she has signed with Warner Nashville and she is working on a new CD. So we could see Deana Carter return to the country charts very soon. She has talent and probably deserved better at Capitol. Here's the video for Strawberry Wine by Deana Carter.
