Artist:The Third Bardo
Song:I'm Five Years Ahead Of My Time
Album:Pebbles Vol. 3: The Acid Gallery
The Third Bardo released one single and recorded a total of six songs. But that one 1967 single has a reputation of mythic proportions mostly because of the Nuggets and in this case especially the Pebbles various artists psychedelic comps. So the odd thing is that they were on a major label and worked with a big name producer. The Third Bardo were from New York City and were led by lead singer Jeff Monn AKA Jeffrey Neufield. Other members were Ricky Goldklang on lead guitar, Richy Seslowe on guitar, Damian Kelly on bass and Bruce Ginsberg on drums. They signed with Roulette Records. Their one session was produced by veteran producer Teddy Randazzo, best known for his work with Little Anthony & The Imperials. Randazzo's partner Rusty Evans wrote I'm Five Years Ahead Of My Time. He was a member of The New Christy Minstrels and had a psychedelic group called The Deep. The song got some radio play on the East Coast but was pulled due to perceived drug references though Monn denies this. The Third Bardo split up soon after. Jeff Monn recorded a solo album for Vanguard and then changed his name to Chris Moon and recorded an album for CBS in 1970. The song became a cult favourite when it was included on the Pebbles comps and today is considered a classic of psychedelia. You can get it and other classics on Pebbles Vol. 3. Here's a homemade video for I'm Five years Ahead Of My Time by The Third Bardo that's pretty damn good.
