Artist:Sugarland
Song:Something More
Album:Twice The Speed Of Life
Sugarland has become one of today's most popular country acts and have crossed over into the mainstream in a big way. They were a trio when they recorded their 2004 debut CD Twice The Speed Of Life but are now a duo. They have a touring band but use mostly session musicians in the studio. Something More was one of their first big hits. They started out in Atlanta in 2002. Singer songwriter guitarist Kristian Bush (born Mar. 14, 1970 in Knoxville, TN) had been one half of the duo Billy Pilgrim. They recorded for Atlantic in the 90s. Guitarist songwriter Kristen Hall had recorded as a solo artist since 1990. They spotted lead singer Jennifer Nettles (born Sept. 12, 1974 in Douglas, GA) fronting her own Jennifer Nettles Band. They self released an EP and this led to a contract with Mercury Nashville in 2004. The single Baby Girl was released early 2004 and reached #2 on the Billboard Country Singles chart. the CD Twice The Speed Of Life was released Oct. 2004. Garth Fundis (Trisha Yearwood) produced. It was a top five countey album and a top twenty pop album. Something More reached #2 on the Billboard Country Singles chart. The song is credited to all three members of Sugarland and all three are accomplished songwriters. Kristen Hall left Sugarland in Dec. 2005 to focus on her songwriting. There were rumours about why she left but Kristen has never addressed it and I would not be surprised if she signed a confidentiality agreement with Mercury. She has not recorded but did sue Sugarland in 2008 over songwriting royalties. Sugarland has been even more successful as a duo. Both their 2006 CD Enjoy The Ride and their 2008 CD Love On The Inside went double platinum and Love On The Inside topped the Billboard Hot 200 and the Billboard Country Album chart. Sugarland had a very successful 2009 ABC TV special and the CD/DVD release also topped the charts. They released the Christmas CD Gold And Green in Oct. 2009 and their new CD The Incredible Machine is to be released Oct. 2010. So clearly Sugarland is more than a country band now. I really like them and Jennifer Nettles has a lot of charisma. Here's the video for Something More by Sugarland.
