Amanda Nunes "The Leone Of The Ring" |
One year ago, Amanda Nunes was unknown to MMA fans in Brazil and around the world. But now after wins over veteran fighters Vanessa Porto and Ediene Gomes, The Leone Of The Ring is poised to become the next big women's MMA star. Amanda says "The results are because of much dedication and support from the people who believe in me." Amanda says she has always had the support of her family and it was her mother who started Amanda's career by sending her and sister Vanessa to martial arts classes. Apparently Amanda was a very high energy child. She started boxing training at age 14 followed by jiu jitsu training at age 18. Then she started judo with Edson, Ricardo & Bruno Carvalho and they have instilled their humility, courage, perserverance, faith, discipline and determination in her. She says she never studies video of her opponents but knows their profile. Bruno is her training partner and keeps her well prepared jiu jitsu, judo, striking, boxing, kyokushin and physical conditioning. Amanda is excited about the growth of women's MMA. She says "I believe in the sport. It is possible to live what you love." Though not confirmed yet, Amanda' next fight will likely be for WFE in Bahia on May 21. She is hoping that Carina Damm will be her opponent. She says she admires Carina's work and thinks this hotly anticipated match will be very interesting. A contracted weight is under discussion.
