Jango Song Of The Day-Delroy Wilson

Artist:Delroy Wilson
Song:Dancing Mood
Album:The Very Best Of Delroy Wilson

Delroy Wilson was one of the most soulful vocalists from Jamaica and he was a big part of the 60s Ska and Rock Steady movement. Dancing Mood is one of his most memorable songs. He was born Oct. 5, 1948 in the Trenchtown section of Kingston, Jamaica. Producer Coxsone Dodd discovered him in 1962 and that was Wilson's ticket out of the ghetto. His first big hit was Spit In The Sky which apparently was a dig at rival producer Prince Buster. This kind of rivalry between producers was very common in Jamaica in those days. Wilson had more hits including Joe Liges, Prince Pharoah and his cover of The Tams R & B hit Dancing Mood. Dancing Mood was so popular that Wilson re-recorded it several times over the years. This comp from Rhino is a good intro to his music. A lot of other comps have later versions. Wilson bounced around various producers in the 70s. He had a lot of success with Bunny Lee and other producers as well. His career slowed in the 80s with the rise of the DJ. He continued to record and perform until his health failed and he died of cirrhosis on Mar 6, 1995 at age 46. Here's Delroy Wilson performing Dancing Mood 1984.
